My Fellowship Experience at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN (2016-2018).
I highly appreciate the great opportunity of doing my 2-year fellowship in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. I feel very fortunate to choose Mayo, the hospital ranked No.1 in the US, to gain experience evaluating and treating patients with the full spectrum of heart disease, including those with advanced heart failure requiring heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. As Mayo is considered a large referral center for complex cases, including in cardiology, I had the opportunity to get involved in the evaluation and management of many complex cases. The clinical experience and the team approach for practicing medicine and caring for patients is so appealing at Mayo. The teaching program lead by a highly skilled cardiology team enriched my knowledge considerably and provided me powerful clinical tools in the management of patients with heart failure at different levels of disease severity. Moreover, I was involved in many research projects. Mayo provides a great opportunity to trainees to pursue research projects and learn various research tools, including those for big data analysis and others for transitional research opportunities. Despite my hard work in clinic, I was fortunate to run many research projects with leading cardiologists and researchers at Mayo, resulting in more than 35 publications (most as first author). I am working now at Hadassah University Medical Center, Jerusalem, Israel, as the director of the Heart Failure Unit and Director of the Cardiovascular Research Center. Since the end of my fellowship at Mayo about 3 years ago, I am still a research collaborator with the Mayo team, and we are now working on other research projects as well as other clinical and research collaborative efforts between Hadassah and Mayo centers. I am confident that my experience at Mayo during my 2-year fellowship has contributed enormously to establish my career at Hadassah and provided me with the best clinical and research training tools according to Mayo values to practice medicine in Israel efficiently and with respect and compassion to our patients.
